The Seasons’ Must-Have

Posted by WNO |

Mimosa has officially been declared the color of the year, geometric shapes and ethnic prints are the new hot items, and sheer is back with a vengeance. And more than ever, the “borrowed it from my boyfriend” look has been flooding the fashion runaways. But whether it’s spring or fall, or whether you’re wearing a fedora or tiara, the most important thing you can wear is confidence.

I once heard a man comment on a woman who he described as electrifying, beautiful – she was the center of his attention in a room full of people. I asked him what it was about her that grabbed his attention and held it so. I was certain that she was drop-dead gorgeous and half naked. But, to my surprise, he replied that she was rather modestly dressed, her hair was simple and her makeup was minimal. What drew him, he claimed, was her sense of conformability – her confidence. He said that so many women try to dress up and makeover their flaws. They prance around and try to exhibit an extra “air of cool,” but they are really masking their insecurities in hopes that no one uncovers their secret.

Ever have a guy hit on you at the gym or on a late night trip to the grocery store, when you’re hair is wrapped and your legs are swimming in your sweats? You wondered, what the heck does he see in me? What the heck is wrong with him?

It is when you are most comfortable and when you aren’t putting up any pretense that your light most brightly shines (it has less makeup, jewelry and hair blocking its way). When you know who you are and you are comfortable in your own skin, people notice, they respect you and they want to be near you. Now, nothing’s wrong with enhancing your beauty, just make sure that you actually have a healthy self-image to begin with. Don’t get carried away with trying to hide flaws, neither should you be so self-absorbed that you worship your outer appearance and adorn it with jewels and fashion, but neglect your spirit.

Nourish your soul, maintain your health and beauty, love and respect yourself and others. Be confident in who you are.

1. Wear lingerie, under a suit. No one at work knows what's underneath, but you'll feel great.

2. Do something you really enjoy, that comes naturally to you. If you're a great dancer, do it more often.

3. Workout or take a walk.

4. Pamper yourself to a day at the spa (or a nice hot bubble bath)

5. Tell yourself that you are beautiful and give yourself a hug (sounds weird, but you have to learn to truly love and accept yourself).

6. Stare at yourself naked until you get use to all your "wobbly parts." Stop trying to avoid them.

7. If there is something you wish to improve about your life, stop focusing on the problem and work towards a solution. Go to the gym, take that extra class, and go for the new job!
