Why Are You Single???
If someone asks you "why are you with him/her?" and you genuinely love (or even like) the person you typically have an answer. Your answer may allude to the way this certain someone makes you feel, the special space they occupy in your heart and life, or any number of reasons. Whatever your reason may be, it typically only takes a few seconds to come to you even if you never tried to articulate it before. But what do you say when someone asks "why are you single?" And I'm not talking about "just got out of an effed up situation" single, just plain ole single. Is there a good or socially acceptable response to the question "Why Are You Single???"

The record-breaking snowstorm we experienced in the Mid-Atlantic region this past week has made a lot of people confront their relationships or the lack there of. I've joked that this storm would leave most couples broken up or pregnant. And God forbid that you've been snowed in all alone because you are prob a horny, lonely basket case by now. Coincidentally, not only is this coming weekend the first time most will get back out in the real world with a chance to cure their cabin fever, it is also Valentine's Day (awwww!).
On a recent group BBM convo, my friends talked about getting out and getting things together for their VDay plans. While it did make me a little warm & fuzzy to hear all the fun & romantic things everyone had planned, I commented "I'm bout to exit this convo bc yall are depressing me." When my friends asked why, I exclaimed "bc I'm SINGLE!!!" Of course I wasn't really depressed but I did feel slightly inadequate for not having anything to contribute to the convo. Anywho, one of my friends asked "why are you single?"... Huh? LOL. So glad we weren't on a video chat because I had the dumbest look on my face. It was an awkward mix of confusion and embarrassment. Seldom am I at a loss for words but I honestly didn't have an answer for that. On one hand, I do want to be in a relationship but on the other I am an extreme introvert who enjoys being alone (and please be mindful that there is a big difference between alone and lonely).
Even now as I write it, I'm not sure if my answer to "why are you single?" is sufficient; its not definite, too ambiguous. This is not the answer I gave my friends, I just told them what was the most honest and immediate response which is that I can't explain my singleness. I understand my friend's question was mostly rhetorical but it still leaves me wondering really, why am I single???
Oh well. **kanyeshrug** Let's look at it on the bright side. If I was in a happy, committed relationship, CallMeKarrie would cease to exist, LOL. Only single girls have this much fun (and this much free time to blog about it).
