Rocknrolla is one of the latest movies by Guy Ritchie. If you were a fan of some of his older work ("Snatch", "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Revolver") I'm sure you'll enjoy this.

Ok, so it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that my pen name and style of writing is inspired by none other than pop culture icon Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. As much as I adore Carrie and the whole SATC empire, I am not one of those delusional fanatics who doesn't realize that Carrie is just a CHARACTER!!! (**gasps!**)
The real life writer who wrote the SATC book that inspired the series and the movie is Candace Bushnell (she also wrote the book Lipstick Jungle that inspired the series of the same name). Although SJP brings Carrie Bradshaw to life, Candace gave Carrie Bradshaw life (thanks Candace!!!).
I read the actual SATC book a several years ago and was excited when I received my copy of "The Carrie Diaries" a few days ago. I've spent the last two nites w/my book and a bottle of Reisling getting to know the young Ms. Bradshaw. I won't give a premature book review (although you most def get my full review when I'm done) but her are my thoughts a third of the way thru (this may be a spoiler alert if you plan to read the book):
- Who knew Carrie had sisters!?!? She definitely strikes me as an only child or a girl in a house full of men, but Carrie has two sisters, Missy & Dorrit (I believe Carrie is the middle child), who appear to be equally as quirky.
- Carrie lost her mom at a young age. I can't remember if this was explicitly revealed in the series but I'm sure I already knew this.
- Carrie was on the swim team in high school and formerly a gymnast. This was a shocker because the Carrie we've grown to love on the big and small screen seems very clumsy and uninterested in anything that makes her sweat (well, except for sex of course).
As far as Candace, I love her witty, humorous, narrative style. My one complaint so far is that I feel the book jumps head first into Carrie's romantic life and assigns her a Big-like object of affection too early on.
Overall, I am still pretty excited about the book and hope to finish it by the end of the weekend.
In other CallMeKarrie/SATC news...
I'm going to see SATC2 today!!! Whoop whoop!!! I'm excited but not ecstatic. For one, there were several debacles this past week that caused me to miss not one but THREE pre-screenings (ugh, i get angry just thinking about it). Also, it hasn't gotten the best reviews (O_o). **kanyeshrug** As a true SATC fan, I'm sure I'll still enjoy it even if its not as good as the first.
Ok WNO, I will keep you posted on my book and movie review and please please PLEASE send me your reviews as well!!! You can comment directly to this post or email waternoxygen@gmail.com.
This weeks Movie Monday is one that a lot of you are probably familiar with, but for those of you who haven't had the chance to check it out, On Demand or Redbox Gran Torino real quick. Clint Eastwood stars as a widowed veteran who has a heavy heart and takes it out on those closest to him and those that try to cross him. Real good movie worth spending a monday on!!!
Found this over on Rap Radar. Kweli drops some great music as usual, but this time about the "Legal, Racial Profiling" taking place in Arizona. Check it out!
Stacey Dash, need I say more! Cuz we are SUPER HIGH!!!
Nice lil video from the homie Wiz Khalifa. This is from his latest mixtape Kush and Orange Juice. I personally don't blow trees, but every time I listen to him I feel like rollin one up. "OKAAAYYYY"
Here go's some more nice pieces from the second delivery of The Hundreds summer 2010 collection. Definitely a big fan of the Jumbo Adam Bomb tee! Anybody at the hundreds reading this we need a shipment, Thx!
Black Keys is a band that's been climbing high on my list as of late(Been rocking to the BlacRoc cd real heavy!!!). This is a pretty funny video, as it shows that boys will be boys and you never really grow up. Looks like the same things you fight over as boys you still do as men. Favorite line: "But dad he smells like Ranch Dressing".
Looks like one of our favorite brands is back at it again with their 2010 Summer Collection. From what I see it looks like Mishka definitely didn't disappoint for this season. The collection contains a lot of Cut and Sew pieces and nice Graphics on the Tees, but hey that's nothing new. Check out the Summer 2010 Lookbook Here
Sessions with Lupe Fiasco x Okayplayer TV from Evesborough Films on Vimeo.
Nice intimate interview with one of our favorite artist Lupe Fiasco. Check it out as he discusses getting singles leaked, his take on fashion and "The All City Chess Club"
I think all sneaker heads have some type of dark secrets when it comes to their addition to footwear. Here's a peak at the New Footlocker campaign that had me cracking up when I saw it! Enjoy!
Andy Warhol Portriats - Something for the Coffee Table
Ran across this the other day while at the book store. Definitely thinking about adding this as a staple to the Coffee Table collection(might be time for a bigger Coffee Table)! I've been getting into my collections of art, but since I can't afford any of Mr. Warhols' classics this book will be the next closet thing to one! You can find it online at Phaidon. It'll run you around $50.00 but from what I saw it's definitely worth the purchase!
RUNAWAY FAYE from The Town Pump on Vimeo.
Married to the Mob is definitely one of my favorite streetwear brands for women... They always have creative and edgy designs for the ladies. The new promotional video for their upcoming summer 2010 line is great, it plays off of the theme of a runaway teen aka "Runaway Faye". Pretty interesting concept! Oh yeah definitely loving the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" on the soundtrack too. Enjoy!
Nice, Simple, and Clean... I don't think this video could have played out any other way! This was definitely one of my favorite songs off of Phil's "Starting On JV" Mixtape. I can honestly say this video felt like Phil was writing about my life! Good Look by Phil Ade and 368!
Yukel: 249 USD
Miltzen: 229 USD
Ran across these nice pieces of Moscot Originals eye wear that can add a nice boost to any bodies look. These can be a great addition to your collection for the upcoming summer season. Make sure you find a way to make them work for you and not against you. I constantly see to many people trying to make the eyeglasses look work...if it's not natural don't force it!
I'm definitely diggin this new track from the Kickdrums had my head bopping the whole time I listened to it..
The Hundreds Summer 2010 Collection
The Hundreds have blessed us with a preview of their Summer collection, which looks pretty nice. Check out a few of our favorite pieces from the set!
Here's another new track from our guy Greenspan! This is from his upcoming project "Got Green 2"! After debuting this track with some great performances last week we are happy to bring you Go to JB! Check it out Here!
