Boy, You Aint Got No Damn Gold! pt.2

Posted by WNO |

Being fly and fashionable are sometimes confused with being materialistic.
Furthermore, fashionistas are often characterized as being high maintenance.
Can the fly and fashionable be materialistic and high maintenance??? Yes! But
should it be synonymous??? Absolutely not. And if you really wanna take it THERE
(oh, and I’m gonna go THERE) some people totally get the game effed up and
lump all females who prefer the finer things in life as “gold diggers” ßI really,
really despise that phrase. It is so overused that meaning has been warped &
distorted. I feel the same way about “swag” but I digress…

A female who prefers designer labels, fine dining, and has a standing weekly
salon & spa appointment should not be automatically deemed as a gold digger.
The term gold digger should not refer to what you have or do, but instead refer
to the resources that fund those luxury possessions and activities. Additionally,
the term should be reserved for those women whose primary goal in a relationship
is to use her significant other for financial & material gain.

In 2009, there are many “self-made” females who earn as much of their
male counterparts and are content with using their own wealth to fund their
desired lifestyles (sing it with me “I love her cause she got her own, she don’t
need mine, she says leave mine alone…”).

Because Knight didn’t know my friend very well, we can only assume that he
assessed her exterior to determine that she may be the gold-digging type
(designer attire, very well-groomed, etc.) and the Ruth Chris request was the
icing on the cake. I’m sure that he thought that all these things were indicative
of the type of person he perceived her to be, but what did the situation say about
him? Let’s not forget that within five minutes of meeting her he was buying her
Rose’ and talking about hanging out in Vegas. Can you really accuse someone of
being a “gold digger” if a “money bag” is the only image you’ve presented of
yourself??? Silly rabbit…

The moral of the story is don’t judge a fly book by her cover & be careful of who
you accuse of diggin’ in your pockets when it’s obvious that your pockets aren’t
that deep. Fly recognize fly, so stay in your lane, lol.

Boy, You Aint Got No Damn Gold! pt. 1

Posted by WNO |

A few weeks ago, my fly girls & I descended on the district to part-take in
the events for the Congressional Black Caucus. We wound up @ the Park &
14th and posted at a table on the first floor to survey our surroundings. Don’t
get me wrong, it was definitely packed, but we were somewhat bored and uninterested.
I guess it just wasn’t our type of crowd…

Spotting our melancholy gazes, a well dressed young gentleman made his
way to our table. He asked one of my friends if we would like a drink and
invited us to the private section he had reserved upstairs. He & his friends
were courteous & polite and the more we drank the more they kept the bottles
coming. We laughed and danced but other than that the guys tended to their
other guest and left us to do as we pleased. (This is a girl’s dream come true in
the club. Most guys buy you one drink and try to act like they’ve rented you for
the night. This was totally not the case tonight). Towards the end of the night, my
one friend & I walked off while as our “knight in shining armor” (for storytelling
purposes, this dude will henceforth be known as “Knight”) got to know our
friend better. They exchanged numbers and we left soon there after. On the
car ride home, my friend explained to us how Knight invited her to “hang out”
again, possibly in NYC, Vegas, etc. (a bit much for a first encounter but he seemed
like a nice enough guy so I can dig it.).

They kept in contact for the next week or so and Knight asked to take my
friend out on a date. He said he wasn’t familiar with the city and told her “it’s
whatever you like” (ok, he may not have said it just like that, but I’m trying
to insert a soundtrack to paint a picture, lol). My friend responded “how bout
Ruth Chris?” At this point, Knight completely flipped the script. More or less,
he told her to pump her brakes & get out his pockets (ha!). He thought it was
inappropriate for her to ask to go to Ruth Chris on a first date and told her Friday’s
would have been a more appropriate response (which is what he should have
suggested instead of giving her the unlimited option if he felt that strongly about it).
Being the self-sufficient diva that she is, my friend was pissed & exclaimed
“did he just call me a gold digger?!?!”…
Just as shocked by the turn of events as my friend was, it got me thinking. Let me know if you feel me:

He's the King, I'm the DJ!

Posted by WNO |

I thought it would only be right to drop this mixtape on our faithful followers with the release of MJ's new movie right around the corner. Honestly it would have been selfish not to put this up. He always kept me laughing on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" but DJ Jazzy Jeff proves to everyone what his true calling was with this mix. All of MJ's best cuts on one cd with such a seamless flow. Honestly the best MJ mix I've heard since the King passed away. Enjoy!

Must see Movie

Posted by WNO |

I know I'm a lil late on this movie but it is funny as hell. Check it out.
"Peter Klaven's world revolves around his real estate work and Zooey, his soon-to-be fiancée. After he pops the question, she calls her best friends and they go into wedding planning mode. Peter has no male friends and that poses problems: will he turn out to be a clingy guy, and who will be his best man? Zooey, her friends, and Peter's brother Robbie offer help that results in awkward moments. Then, at an open house Peter's hosting, he meets Sydney, an amiable, low-key guy. They trade business cards, and Peter calls him to meet for drinks. A friendship develops that's great at first but then threatens Peter's engagement and career. Can guys be friends and couples be in love?"
